Object images: Digitized Sky Survey (DSS)

Produced at the Space Telescope Science Institute; served via the CDS/ALASKY HiPS.

Deep-sky object images are from the DSS color survey, accessed through the ALASKY database at the Centre de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS). The Digitized Sky Surveys were produced at the Space Telescope Science Institute under U.S. Government grant NAG W-2166. The images are based on photographic data obtained using the Oschin Schmidt Telescope on Palomar Mountain and the UK Schmidt Telescope.

Milky Way panorama

Planet and Saturn-ring texture maps are from Solar System Scope, resized and reformatted for use in the app.

Moon preview photos

Preview photos for Europa, Ganymede, Ariel, and Callisto in the moon search and detail views use processed spacecraft imagery shared under Creative Commons licenses.
