This Privacy Policy describes how Connor Rauscher ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the StarTeller mobile application ("StarTeller," "the App," or "the Application"). StarTeller is a freemium astronomy planning app provided on an "AS IS" basis.

Summary

StarTeller does not use analytics, advertising, user accounts, or tracking technologies. We do not operate servers that collect or store personal information about you. Aside from in-app purchases handled by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat (described below), the App works primarily on your device using data stored locally on that device.

Data Stored on Your Device

To provide core functionality, the App may store information locally on your device only, such as:

This information stays on your device unless you delete the App or clear its data. We do not receive copies of this locally stored data on our own servers.

Location Information

With your permission, StarTeller may access your device's location to calculate which astronomical objects are visible from your position and to center the sky map. Location data is used on your device for these features. We do not operate a backend that stores your location history.

If you use location search or place-name lookup in the App, your device may send search queries or coordinates to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to resolve place names. That service is operated by a third party and is subject to its own policies. You can avoid this by entering coordinates manually instead of using search.

In-App Purchases

StarTeller offers an optional one-time in-app purchase to unlock the full object catalog. Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We use RevenueCat to verify purchase entitlements and restore purchases across reinstalls. RevenueCat may receive information related to your purchase and a device or app-user identifier assigned for entitlement management. We do not receive your payment card details.

Other Third-Party Services

When you use certain App features, your device may connect directly to third-party services to download content or resolve data. These requests are made from your device; we do not log them on our own servers. Examples include:

Support Communications

If you contact us at starteller.support@icloud.com, we will receive whatever information you choose to include in your message (such as your email address and the content of your inquiry). We use that information only to respond to your request.

Children and All Ages

StarTeller is suitable for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The App does not require an account. If someone under 13 contacts us for support, a parent or guardian may email us on their behalf at starteller.support@icloud.com.

Your Choices

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. You can delete locally stored App data by uninstalling StarTeller or clearing the App's storage through your device settings. To stop any purchase-related processing by third parties, uninstall the App and manage subscriptions or purchase history through Apple or Google.

Security

Because we do not operate a user database, there is no central account or profile for us to secure on our servers. Data stored on your device is protected by your device's operating system.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
